When Plan A Turns into the Perfect Plan B
Hermes messaged me almost two months before he planned to propose. We were originally set on Taft Point iconic for its epic cliffside views. But a freak snowstorm changed everything. Glacier Point Road was closed earlier than usual, and we had to pivot.
Luckily, I knew of a much quieter spot near Tunnel View still offering Yosemite’s grandeur, but away from the crowds.
The Perfect Setup: Acting, Timing, and the Big Surprise
The plan was simple, but required some light acting on my end.
When they arrived, Hermes asked me (pretending not to know me) to snap a photo on his phone. I played along, and then said:
“Hey! I’m actually a photographer here in Yosemite. I’m testing this new spot for a couple I’m shooting tomorrow. Would you guys mind modeling real quick?”
Roe said yes without suspecting a thing. I led them to my secret overlook, set them up for a “test shot,” and gave Hermes the signal.
She Said YES!
Roe’s reaction was priceless. Shock, joy, happy tears it was the kind of moment you want to relive over and over. After soaking in the moment, we stayed up there for a while and captured the just-engaged glow as the sun dipped behind Yosemite’s granite walls.
