(Because nobody wants to be that person who forgot sunscreen… or pants)

So you’re heading to Yosemite for a wedding. First of all excellent life choice. Whether you’re the couple tying the knot against the backdrop of Half Dome or a guest lucky enough to snag an invite, you’re about to experience one of the most jaw-dropping places on earth.
But here’s the thing about Yosemite: she’s beautiful, unpredictable, and totally wild. And that means packing smart is essential if you want to look cute in photos and survive whatever Mother Nature decides to throw at you.
I’ve photographed countless weddings here in sunshine, rain, snow flurries, and surprise wind gusts so I’ve seen what people wish they’d brought. Consider this your no-fail, Yosemite wedding packing list, straight from a photographer who’s been there, done that, and has the mud on her hiking boots to prove it.
For the Couple

Because you’ve got enough to think about without worrying if you remembered your bouquet scissors.
- Your wedding attire (and a backup layer!)
Even in summer, mornings and evenings can be chilly. Bring a cozy wrap, jacket, or denim layer that still looks good in photos. - Comfortable shoes for adventuring
You can hike in heels, but… please don’t. Bring boots or sturdy flats for exploring, then slip into your wedding shoes for the ceremony. - Touch-up kit
Think: powder, lipstick, bobby pins, mini hair spray, and blotting papers. Wind and sun are real here. - Vow books
Tiny, romantic, and way prettier in photos than your phone. - Water bottle
Yes, even for your wedding day. Yosemite’s elevation and dry air are no joke. - Park permit & photo ID
If your ceremony spot requires a permit, have it handy. Rangers do check! - Sunscreen + lip balm with SPF
Because sunburned lips on your wedding night are not the vibe.
For the Guests

Even if you’re “just” attending, you’re still part of the adventure. Dress for the wilderness and the wedding.
- Layers, layers, layers
The temperature swings in Yosemite are no joke — you could be warm at noon and freezing by sunset. - Sturdy shoes
Pathways aren’t always flat or paved. Your ankles will thank you. - Reusable water bottle
Hydrated guests are happy guests. - Sunscreen + sunglasses
Yosemite sun is strong, even on cloudy days. - Bug spray
Especially if the reception is outdoors in spring or summer. - A small backpack or tote
Handy for layers, snacks, and wedding favors you’ll inevitably want to keep. - Park pass
You’ll need one to get in unless the couple has arranged something special.
Extra Pro Tips From Your Friendly Yosemite Photographer
- Pack snacks — You’ll thank me when you’re hungry between ceremony and reception.
- Skip the stilettos — They’ll sink into dirt and grass.
- Check the forecast, but don’t trust it — Yosemite loves surprises.
- Don’t forget your sense of adventure — This is not a ballroom wedding. Embrace the wind in your hair, the dirt on your hem, and the wild beauty all around you.
Whether you’re the couple or a guest, packing well for a Yosemite wedding is the key to enjoying the day to the fullest. With the right gear, you can focus less on being cold, thirsty, or sunburned — and more on soaking up the epic views, emotional vows, and all the love in the air.
